Topologi dan Ruang Topologi
Salah satu himpunan terstruktur yang ada pada Matematika yang disebut dengan ruang topologi, sama seperti himpunan terstruktur lainnya yang ada pada matematika seperti grup ataupun ruang vektor. Ruang topologi adalah suatu himpunan yang dilengkapi struktur, yang dilengkapi aturan-aturan. Apa saja aturan pada ruang topologi?
Definisi 1: Diberikan himpunan tak-kosong S, suatu kelas t yang berisikan himpunan-himpunan bagian dari S dikatakan topologi pada S, jika memenuhi :
(i) S dan himpunan kosong
termuat didalam t.

Beberapa topologi khusus diantaranya Topologi Indiskrit, topologi Diskrit dan Topologi Kofinit.
Definisi 2: Diberikan S himpunan tak-kosong dan t adalah koleksi dari semua himpunan bagian dari S maka t disebut topologi diskrit, sedangkan ruang topologi (S,t) disebut ruang diskrit.
Dengan mudah kita cek bahwa definisi 2 memenuhi semua kondisi dari definisi 1, jadi definisi 2 juga merupakan topologi
